Calling All Parentpreneurs!

By Monica Y Mateo

This is a desperate blog so don’t expect a pep talk. I’m defeated and exhausted. This was or is (I’m not too sure anymore) my week off from work. It was my time to get everything done for my book, The Cancer Warrior, but the universe sometimes has a different plan (or a screwed up sense of humor).

For two years, I’ve been writing, editing and marketing my memoir between naps and at bedtime. But this week was especially difficult. My little one has a double ear infection and is 20 mths old. (Thank you parents, I can feel your empathy)!

I had to manage business meetings, doctors, vomit, laundry, vomit, fighting medicine down, crying, vomit and not sleeping in days.

Parents have so much on their plate and most of it goes unseen or unnoticed. Especially if you’re an entrepreneur or authorpreneur (in my case). We have to balance our work, finances and making sure we don’t put our family in the back burner.

We are constantly “on” all day and all night. Case and point, my sick little boy is nestled on my bed right beside me, my fiance is working the night shift, and I am blogging from my phone. (Praying to the high heavens the light doesn’t disturb him).

So parents, I salute the crap out of you. We don’t get sick days, time off or a break. We don’t have the ability of setting up our schedules based on the needs of our projects or business ventures. It’s based off whatever free time we can manage along with PTA meetings, practice, doctors, play dates, etc.

So parents repeat after me:

The best thing I can do is take it moment by moment. I accept that I can only do my best each day. I am enough and reaching for my goals doesn’t mean I am putting my family last. My goals and time are also important.

P.s If any of you are wondering if he slept the whole night. Right after I saved my blog, I ended up with toddler sleeping on my chest. But he is finally getting better and we are all praying for a good night’s sleep!

Love, peace and healing, xo!
